Team Newfoundland, Rural Guatemala Sept ‘23

Team Newfoundland is heading back to rural Guatemala to offer medical care to the many indigenous populations in the region of Alta Verapaz from September 22-30, 2023. Our team of 15 medical volunteers represent family, emergency and women’s health specialists, in addition to a vision team supported by the Lion’s Club of Eastern Newfoundland.

In partnership with Partner for Surgery, the team will travel by bus to several rural communities to set up mobile clinics to treat men, women and children in need of care. Those in need of surgery will be triaged for a future surgical mission and those in need of eye glasses will be given glasses free of charge. The need is great in these rural areas as even access to clean drinking water is a challenge.

Please support Team Newfoundland’s Rural Mission – your donation will support patients like 16 year old Sonia, from Ixcan, who came to our last rural clinic in January too embarrassed to remove her mask. She was born with a cleft lip and palate and had been shunned from her peers, had difficulty eating and speaking and had stopped going to school. Thanks to our follow up surgical mission one month later, Sonia received a life-changing surgery and is now smiling, speaking clearly, and feeling more and more confident. Thank you for supporting many others in need, just like Sonia.
