Team Broken Earth first went to Guatemala in 2016 to assess medical needs in order to better inform future missions. Since then, we have partnered with the Asociacion Compañero para Cirugia (ACPC) whose mission is to connect patients in need of health and surgical care in remote communities with international volunteer triage and surgical teams, as well as to educate and empower rural Guatemalans to initiate and advocate for vital health care services on their own behalf. To date, there have been six medical mission teams who have gone to Guatemala focusing on general surgery, orthopedic surgery and plastic surgery, with teams from Calgary, Vancouver, St. John’s and Barrie.
